The Gresham is one of the most famous hotels in Dublin. I always thought it would be too expensive for my taste but was surprised at how competitively priced it was for so central a location. A grand aunt of mine transported guns out of there in the 1920s after a rebel operation there so I had a bit of curiosity to walk in her footsteps though not to follow in them. The hotel lobby has an ostentatious feel, and there is a bar/restaurant to the right as you enter. The rooms have a modern feel and are spaciously built out. The last room I stayed in had two tvs and two double beds, and an expansive walk in shower in the bathroom. In addition to the regular shower head there was was a large overhead vertical shower head with high pressure the kind Americans love and, if your'e like me, you will love it too. The highlight though for me was the breakfast. You can get the full Irish breakfast, sausages, rashers eggs, beans, even chips I think. Beyond that is a range of pastries or different breads with toasts and jams and you can even cut your own slice slice of sourdough. When you enter they will not offer you merely a cup of tea or coffee but produce an entire pot of your choice. The coffee got me wired for the day. You have a choice of drinks you can pour for yourself, fresh oj, cranberry or grapefruit. I loved the grapefruit.

We had a spacious family room for 3. We stayed at the hotel on 18 Oct, 20-21 Oct. For the first night we had a room facing the inside courtyard. For the next 2 nights, we were lucky to get a room facing the street. On 18 Oct, the USB charging point on the wall has some problem. I went downstairs to tell a staff about it and want to borrow an adaptor. She explained that the hotel doesn't has spare adaptor to lend. Nevertheless, she immediately sent a duty manager (Suraj) to check and confirm the problem in my room. Suraj also advised me that the hotel doesn't have any adaptor for lending but he lent me his own adaptor so that I did not need to go out and buy an adapter at night. Upon explaining to Suraj that I would still need to buy an adaptor because I would stay for 2 more nights, he went extra miles and let me keep his adaptor till I check out the hotel on 22 Oct (don't forget I didn't stay in the hotel on 19 Oct), such that I could save some money and no need to buy an adaptor. I really appreciated the kind gesture of Suraj. The female staff at the lobby counter who first received my enquiry also called my room to make sure the duty manager did come to help me out. I really like the staff of this hotel. I also like the breakfast offered by this hotel.

Arrived early as we were attending a local rugby match so special mention to James at Reception who very kindly helped us to get checked in earlier. Staff throughout the hotel were polite, friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a fantastic selection and was very welcome having been out socialising the previous evening! We have stayed at this hotel several times over recent years as it is a great starting point to visit various sites in and around Dublin whether you want to walk or use public transport. Another bonus is that if you park in the Q Park - The Spire, which is behind the hotel. On checking out, reception can validate your parking ticket which gives you a discount on your parking costs when paying - usually works out around 30% off!!

I like the location The beds were very comfortable and the room very spacious. However the echo in the hallways with doors slamming through out the early morning and late evening was much - there needs to be a soft touch close to the doors or carpeting in the hallway to absorb some of the sound - also the floors in the room need to be mopped - the cleaning staff was good but it was not the most thorough clean. I would get out of the shower and my feet would be dirty if on the room floor. Also more outlets needed in the room! No outlet in the bathroom is odd. Breakfast and front desk/ food and beverage staff were very good. Location was very good as well.

Excellent location - Delicious Buffet breakfast with very good selection. Old world style hotel with impressive reception area - hinting at the grandeur of the old Gresham- Art Deco. Room & bathroom quite old fashioned but spotlessly clean. Excellent shower ( although over bath which we didn’t mind) Staff friendly & attentive. Special mention to John in concierge .Had dinner 2nd evening in Toddy’s- lovely meal- so well attended to by the brilliant Colm!
